Arkells Win Juno for Best New Group

The Arkells snagged the award for best new group at this year's Juno awards on Saturday night in St. John’s NFLD. The band has been gaining speed since the release of their album Jackson Square, winning awards and sharing the stage with some pretty big headliners. Their biggest show to date is only a few weeks away when the band will warm up the crowd at the ACC on May 15th for Them Crooked Vultures.

The Arkells weren't the only local winners in Saturday's awards ceremony; Jack de Keyzer also took home the award for blues album of the year for his "Corktown Sessions" release. The Corktown sessions were recorded live at the legendary Corktown tavern May 1, 2009.

32 of the 39 awards were announced during Saturday's ceremony. The remaining 7 awards will be announced on Sunday and the televised broadcast will also feature live performances from Metric, Justin Bieber, Drake and more.
